getting ready for the holidays . . . (Montana Family Photography)

Often times, I see myself as someone who is not surprised easily. This sweet family surprised me, though.
You see, if someone asked me what type of a photographer I was, I would quickly respond, “a natural light photographer. . . a lifestyle photographer.” I like to be outside where the sun is bright, where the shadows dance, and where the sun rays come through the trees casting speckles of light in your eyes. I like to be by a window where the gentle light gathers. I like to be in child’s room, playing with their toys and catching their little personality in my lens. I like to be in parks, where kids run free, and parents laugh remembering the freedom only a child knows.
So, when this young family called wanting something a bit different, I was a little nervous. It was deathly cold outside, and so to be outdoors would have been miserable. I was a little afraid those kiddos would be afraid of the big lights, of the strange lady with the camera, of being told to “smile!” This young family surpised me, though.
I so enjoyed meeting and being with them, and I hope all of you enjoy these images as much as I did taking them.
